Practice for lesson 15 of 15, 9 problems
Practice: Proportional relationships, direct and inverse variation
Practice problems with solutions on proportional relationships: direct and inverse variation from tables, the constant of proportionality, equations, and problems with paint and travel time.
Review the lessonWork each problem out on paper before you open the solution. If your answer is off, compare the steps and find where you went wrong. If a problem stops you cold, go back to the lesson: every set links to it.

Quick check
Practice 8Quick check
Which pair of quantities is directly proportional?
Twice the hours, twice the pay. The next two vary inversely, and age and shoe size aren't proportional at all.
Practice 9Quick check
\(y\) is directly proportional to \(x\), and \(y = 15\) when \(x = 5\). What is \(y\) when \(x = 8\)?
\(k = 15 \div 5 = 3\), so \(y = 3 \cdot 8 = 24\).
All done?
If you got most of them right, you're ready to move on. If not, reread the lesson and try the ones you missed again in a few days.
