Practice for lesson 15 of 18, 9 problems
Practice: Rational expressions: excluded values and simplifying
Rational expression practice problems with solutions: finding excluded values, simplifying by factoring, opposite factors and the canceling mistakes to avoid.
Review the lessonWork each problem out on paper before you open the solution. If your answer is off, compare the steps and find where you went wrong. If a problem stops you cold, go back to the lesson: every set links to it.

Quick check
Practice 8Quick check
What are the excluded values of \(\frac{3}{(x - 2)(x + 7)}\)?
Each factor of the denominator is zero at one value: \(x = 2\) and \(x = -7\).
Practice 9Quick check
What does \(\frac{x^2 - 4}{x + 2}\) simplify to, for \(x \neq -2\)?
\(x^2 - 4 = (x - 2)(x + 2)\), and the factor \(x + 2\) cancels.
All done?
If you got most of them right, you're ready to move on. If not, reread the lesson and try the ones you missed again in a few days.
